Practice in the Woods Empty
PostSubject: Practice in the Woods   Practice in the Woods I_icon_minitimeFri Jun 19, 2015 2:01 pm

Nathan was the mamma’s boy of the school and always wore a polo when going to school and always had his hair combed to make him look nice. He never really spoke much and normally kept to himself, most of the time reading some book. Whenever he was in anything, he would get competitive and that was the most interesting he had about himself. A spurt of competitiveness that was rarely shown where he showed the skills that he had. He knew that it wasn't the best of things, but his mother talked about his lack of friends constantly, comparing active childhood to his own boring one. It was a bit of pressuring to get to do something outside of playing with his sibling that annoyed him enough to something to get her to stop.

So, in order to end it, he went to ask the first person he saw to spar with him, not ever expecting her to agree to it. Yet, she had and now there he was, getting dressed in some loose pants, a simple red t-shirt, and a black hoodie that had his clan symbol on the back. His mother was up as well and had gave him a few words of encouragement along with a few corny jokes as he left to head towards the forested area that many used to practice at.

There was a good amount of room between the gigantic trees to allow one to move around with inside of the circular clearing that Mother Nature have given to them. A few of the trees nearby had been injured by either justu or kunai, though the markings were all that was left of them. The light from the Sun hung at its highest point when he finally arrived at the place, being around the time that they should meet up. He looked over at the area where he should meet his partner and hoped to see her there so that he could greet her with a simple, “Hey”. If not, he would simply sit against a tree as he waited.

Sylvan had been throughly surprised when a random person she had never met asked her to train. Confused and startled, she had accidentally said 'yes', instead of no. Theoretically, she could cancel, but that would be .. rude. She didn't want to make enemies, after all. But even after academy training, she was still edgy about this. Hand to hand combat with sword or fist was not her strongest suit. She would probably end up using mainly genjutsu to get into a position where she could strike freely. Bit she didn't know any techniques, Ninjutsu or Taijutsu, that would let her end the battle discreetly once she maneuvered herself into that's position. If this was actual combat, she could just stab him. If this was actual combat, she would' e waited until he was asleep, then ended him. But this wasn't actual combat, this was a practice match. The point wasn't who won, but for both parties to walk away with a greater understanding of each other and themselves. To realize what was needed in order to improve, and to tune into the flow of combat. So here she was, walking through the forest towards the area they had agreed on. She really didn't like that bit. They could've met in town, then agreed on a location and walked there immediately. But this 'Nathan' probably wasn't as paranoid as her. "Meaning he isn't crazy. Don't forget that girl, you're crazy. But that isn't a bad thing, and may be of some help here. Last minute ideas no one would think of, you know?" "I'm not very good at those, you know. I'm just worried one of us is going to kill the other by accident."
She had made sure to pack weapons, in case he was secretly a spy sent to kill her. "We can probably rule that out, but I suppose it never hurts to be sure." After all such things weren't exactly unheard of. For some reason Sylvan couldn't quite fathom, all the villages hated one another. Her guess was limited resources, but it seemed far mod efficient to work together. Then again, many individuals she'd met didn't seem at all concerned with efficiency. Which was silly. Also, there was this whole 'funeral' business. She understood the concept of missing somehting that was lost, but why was ceremony necessary? "Perhaps we should focus on the task at hand?" "Aye. Let's get this over with."
She was a little bit concerned, more so then she would admit to herself, truth be told. Direct combat wasn't just something she was bad at, she really didn't quite grasp how it was supposed to work. Especially with the whole 'don't-kill-your-foe' bit that was added to the scenario. She much preferred to fight indirectly with genjtusu rather than engage in close combat. She knew full well though, that this wasn't an option. Even with her skill in Genjutsu's, it would come down to direct combat sooner or later. With that in mind, she began slipping on her fingernail shards. She really didn't want to do this.
She soon arrives in the clearing. She had seen him enter the forest, since she watched from afar as he stepped pats the oaken threshold. He hadn't noticed her, as far as she could tell. It was unlikely he would've though. She was a good distance off, and it was only thanks to her having watched him as he left the village and her good eyesight that she was able to spot him from the distance she was at. "Hail!" she calls out. She really, really didn't want to do this. She knew nothing of this student, perhaps he was a Uchiha taijutsu specialist? Then she was screwed. "We only know one Uchiha, period. And I don't believe she's a Taijutsu specialist. He might be a Taijutsu specialist, but I doubt he's got a Sharingan. Besides, the whole point is that we use genjutsu, isn't it? We wait a bit to determine if he can see through it, then attack. Don't worry so much."

The young uchiha might have noticed her if he has thought she would become his temporary stalker. He knew that the Villages disliked each other as well, but he rarely thought about that since his siblings normally taken up much of his time or just hanging around the house, helping his parents. He didn't know that many would want his eyes when the sharingan was finally activated and while it would have been nice to have when fighting genjustu users, he never had a reason for it to activate. Right now he had to wait until it came, something he dreaded and loved at the same time. Yet, he didn't know how useful those eyes would be or really who Sylvan was. If he had, then he would have tried a less suspicious approach.

His eyes moved towards the greeting as he arrives. He moves over towards her and scratched his head a bit. "Hey. Have you been waiting long?" He asked, hoping the answer was no as he started started to stretch his arms that had gotten stiff during the trek to the clearing. While he didn't plan to be a taijustu specialist, but he did know knowing how to fight was important as well. In his mind, strength came from being well rounded so that someone couldn't exploit your weakness, since you would not have any.

Sylvan didn't know he was a Uchiha, as she'd never gotten his name. The fact that her guesses were half-right was an irony it would take her awhile before she could fully appreciate. Luckily for her, he opponent did not yet have have sharingan. this meant her genjutsus might have some effect, which was good since that was what she was good at. She really hoped she was able to at least fight well. This would be her first fight, not just wrestling with her cousins. She was anxious and concerned. "We should calm down." "Agreed. We can do this."
Sylvan stops a good distance away from Nathan. "I haven't been waiting that long, no. You just got here?"
The only issue was, there was a possibility that Nathan was an experienced fighter, or at least more so than Sylvan. The fact that he asked her to spar certainly suggested so.
"We outnumber him! We can do this." "We really don't." "don't think about that Girl." "'Kay."
"Have you done this before? I admit, I'm a bit inexperienced in this.." Sylvan says, a bit uncertainly. She would have to get ready for this sooner or later, but she hadn't expected it to be sooner rather than later. The boy didn't have a sharingan, so she might be able to trick him. She wasn't sure how smart he was though. If he was skilled enough at perception, he wouldn't really need a sharingan in order to predict her movements or cancel her illusions. This would be problematic, so she was rather hoping he wasn't perceptive.

Nathan was a little confused as why she asked him if he had waited long since he was sure that she had seen him arrive. He nodded at the question at the question, seeing no reason why not to answer. He could tell that she was analyzing him and he would have done the same if he had been more serious about their sparring match. He didn't know that she used genjustu or the fact that she wasn't all that great in taijustu. His ignorance of the fact was corrected shortly after Sylvan gave him his second question. "I have some experience, but that is because I have been doing some training with the other students. I might be able to give ya a few pointers, but that's about it." The young uchiha really didn't know her skill level and he knew that he wasn't all that great to begin with. He started to remove his hoodie and unintentionally told her his last name when his clan symbol was shown for a brief moment.

Sylvan listened to his responses, and cataloged them mentally, but that wasn't what she was really paying attention to. No, what she was paying attention to was the Uchiha symbol she had seen on his hoodie. Her thoughts became rather panicked after that. "Hells! He's a Uchiha! you said he wasn't a Uchiha! What if he was lying about the Taijutsu specialist thing too?!" "Okay okay, so I was wrong about the Uchiha thing, big deal! We can still win this!" "Are you sure? We've never fought a Sharingan before!" "First time for everything right?"
Sylvan took off her own hoodie, showing a plain, dark green shirt with the Yamanaka symbol drawn in faded whit eon the front and back. She hoped she could at least give as good as she got. She had never fought before, and she was guessing he had. Still, the only solution was to hope for the best and wing it. Or that was her understanding of this, anyways. She had no Ninjutsu that could blast away at him from a distance, so going in close was her only option. The main debate in her head was whether or not to use the delightfully sharp pointy things she had with her. On one hand, killing him would be problematic. On the other hand, no one was around, now or when he had asked her to spar. So if she did accidentally kill him... Well, there would still be major issues. But she needed the advantage a sharp pointy thing brought. Reaching to the pouch at her thigh, she draws out a Kunai. Not one of the curved ones she had seen. she would need to buy one of those after this, unless he accidentally or intentionally killed her.
Sylvan moves up a little, weapon at the ready. "Some pointers would not go amiss."

Nathan watched her take off her hoodie and waited for her answer. He had a feeling that she was thinking into things way too much. Then, she brought out a kunai and with him having left his own at home. He'd didn't bring his own simply due to never really being good with the knives. "Umm...I got nothing for using a kunai. I usually don't fight with them, but you can still use it if you want." He said while shifting his stance in front of her. His left foot stayed in front of him and his right went back a little, his fists rose up to protect his head, and his torso was slightly clenched. "There's not a lot of movement in this stance, but its good for one on ones. I think." He really didn't know. The only things that he did know was the tidbits of information that his parents had given him throughout the years.

If she didn't put the knife away, the uchiha's eyes shifted to it constantly. He might be able to take her down normally, but he didn't want to get cut or stabbed. If he was older and more experienced, he'd probably wouldn't mind it so much though right now he wasn't. It also didn't help that the longer he was with her, the more uneasy he felt around her and that had started before she had even pulled out the knife.

Sylvan nods politely, as her face goes blank. "I will." No that she'd ever admit it to the girl, but she had spent several long hours practicing how to get her face to go completely blank like Yusuri's. It seemed to creep the other students out when Yusuri did it, so Sylvan figured it be a good thing to learn. She was hoping it would have that effect on Nathan, but it was no great loss. The other thing about the blank face trick was that it was easy to maintain and cost her nothing to do. Granted, anyone with any amount of skill in reading people could probably see through it, and in combat it would falter. But it was a pretty good imitation all the same.
She does not move closer however. Her Kunai is still at the ready. She did not really want to attack first, after all. She preferred to let him come to her, as she believed he would be hampered when trying to defend from her bladed counter attack. His eyes seemed from to her Kunai. Good, then he might not be watching for her other hand.... Which she supposed she could fill with another Kunai, but given that she had no desire to kill him, it wouldn't serve much of a point. "As you are more experience,d I will allow you to attack first." She says blandly.
"What if he isn't really nervous? What if he's just faking it?" "What if he's not? Regardless of what he thinks he can do, he's an Academy Student just like us, and we have a sharp pointy thing." "And what if he's destined for greatness in a story where we're just side characters? what then?" "Two things. Firstly, we'll still kick his ass even if we are side characters. And Secondly, we'll bloody well be one of the reader's favorites if we are." "Alright, let's do this then." "Let's try a Genjutsu. Maybe not all Sharingan can pierce them."
Sylva moves back 40 ft, quickly stowing her Kunai as she does so. Her hands go into the serpent seal as she prepares her chakra for the genjutsu. 'Magen • Narakumi no Jutsu'
The genjutsu was low level, showing a traumatic scene that would (with any luck) panic her opponent. She draws Kunai once more while her opponent is hopefulyl distracted by the illusion.

Nathan still didn't know what the girl was trying to do by backing up so far away from him. He didn't plan to use any justu and he didn't expect her to use anything lethal on him, or at least not at the start of the match. He saw her hands make a quick sign and before he could do anything, the justu was cast and something that he dreaded showed up in front of him. Tears welled up in his eyes as he saw it, not taking in account that it was an illusion and it was that it was not really happening. The sight of his worst nightmares flashed in front of him and rocked him from his core. He didn't move or say, but it was more than obvious that had fallen under the genjustu. His eyes did not change at all and stayed their regular color.

What he saw was his parents dressed in the regular shinobi attire that he had seen them wear before they went to work and with katana's shoved right in between each other's chest. They would cough up blood shortly afterwards, but their stares never moved. They were locked onto one another and with the famous crimson eyes being disabled as they stood defiantly against one another. It was as if they were daring the other to fall first and give theirself one last gratification before falling as well. He might have been able to see through the illusion if he tried to, but this hit home and it was his own personal hell.

Sylvan does not show any real facial expression externally, but internally her grin is wide. He had definitely be ensnared in her Genjutsu. She coudl kill him right now, with a well placed Kunai to the throat ... But neither of them would've learned anything, now would they. The purpose was not to win, but to learn. Winning was just a nice bonus.  "Hmmmm...We could kill him..... Or we could drop the Genjutsu." "Lets activate our other Genjutsu, then drop this one." "Oooh Good idea." "We could also  make a clone and really mess with his head." "I like this plan. It'll be a heavy drain on our chakra though."
Quickly, they blur through two more jutsu.
"Bunshin no Jutsu!"
"Magen • Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu!"
The result was a clone standing next to Sylvan and the forest floor appear completely flat. Given how uneven it actually was, this would likely prevent some serious difficulties to anyone trying to move across it. The really Sylvan then scrambled up a tree leaving the clone to look threatening. She hopped to the next 'ring' of trees surrounding the clearing they were in, planning to move around behind him and attack. "Good plan! This might actually work. Glad we're finally getting to practice with all those Genjutsu's we learned, I was starting to worry they'd go to waste!" "Illusions are never a waste to have! He hasn't used his Sharingan at all, so perhaps he doesn't know how. If we keep the genjutsu going long enough, we coudl just hold a Kunai at his throat and let it drop." "That's no fun though! We're supposed to learn something from this!" "Well, we could practice the Mind Body Swap." "Oh... Oh my..... that is a good idea.so are we could to have him run off into the woods and get lost?" "I don't see why we shouldn't."

Nathan's eyes widened as the first justu vanished in front of him and left the image of the clone standing in front of him. He felt a rage boil inside of him as he realized what had happened to him and his body trembled with rage. The young uchiha didn't say anything and started to pick up his pace as he reached the clone. Yet, he was stopped as his movement was interrupted by the unevenness between them. "More genjustu." He thought to himself and glanced down at his feet before moving to approach his sparring partner's clone. He had never seen anyone use a clone before and didn't think to even check for one, so he couldn't see past the ruse. Then, he found something odd within his brief moment out of anger and being, just about 25 ft away from the clone. Sylvan was a genjustu user and it was obvious that she was novice at actual combat, but then why was she letting him advance? If he had been given time to then, his gaze would shift to the area around him, looking around to spot another Sylvan nearby. His gaze would be slow and it would take time for him to figure her position out and would give her time to hide if she hadn't already hidden herself from his gaze. This could be changed by the simple attack of the clone advancing at him some time before or even during his search. Yet, even dissipate that, he could have just as easily have missed her due to her hiding or just caught up with another justu, not having a way to counter it in the first place and probably not have enough time to avoid it.

Sylvan would not be giving Nathan the time to think. Manipulating the clone, she had it slid einto a defensive crouch, Kunai and shurikens drawn. Meanwhile, she hopped along the trees until she was directly behind Nathan. After checking to make sure she wouldn't fall out of the tree and that Nathan wasn't moving, she would perform the Mind Body Swap on him. If it looked like he was about to move though, she would wait before performing it.
"This is going to be awesome, if we can pull it off! He'll be lost for days!" "Yeah...." "Huh? What's wrong sis?" "It's just... sister, are we bad people?" "No." "Oh. Okay then! Let's do this!" Truly, they didn't mean him any harm, and were it easy to convey that full impact of their actions, they would be horrified. But they were not well equipped in experiences to understand why someone would have difficulty finding their way out of the forest.

Nathan caught sight of it and with his rage still fresh in his mind, he moved towards the clone in a circular fashion. It was obvious that standing still would only led to negative results. "So, you think this genjustu will defeat me? Not seeing the uneveness on the ground?" He waited for a response though he expected it would only be an attack. Right now, he didn't care. He just wanted to hit something and the clone bore the amazing resemblance of the thing he wanted to hit the most. He knew that charging in himself would led to getting stabbed by the shrukien and that moving slow enough to gain some distance while also being able to dodge if he could.

"Oh dear, he's moving...Time to throw stuff at him." "Like our brain! Can you track where he'll be, assuming his movement is constant?" "y-Yeah... But the risks...." We are hidden in a tree!"
They had reason to worry. Using the technique like this was quite risky, and not even guaranteed to pay off. But they might need it one day, so it was best to learn how to use it in a setting where the other person was less likely to kill them. Though, given that they'd used Vision of Hell on him, it was entirely possible he would kill them. That was why there were going to beat him up with himself first, then be ready to hack him to pieces if necessary.
They prepared for the Mind Body Swap, carefully tracking his circular movement vs. the distance their mental energy traveled, they line up the shot... and fire.

Nathan had no chance in dodging the justu. He wasn't even paying the slightest bit of attention towards Sylvan and his course was slow and obvious, making him even easier target. He was focused on the weapon wielding clone that was there to bait him. So, once the justu was shot at him, he had no chance in avoiding it unless Sylvan was a terrible shot.

Sylvan is able to hit him quite easily. the shot wasn't that hard, after all, and she had practiced this technique a lot. Her parents had drilled it into her as the basic Yamanaka technique, and, rather liking the idea of it, Sylvan had trained hard in its use. When she awakens in Nathan's body, she wastes no time. She immediately turns to the closest tree, and runs at it as hard and fast as she can, head first. Just before impact she disengages all of the jutsu's, including the Genjutsu she had been using, while her spirit floats back to her body. Once her body was back and animated, she would quickly draw a Kunai, ready to throw if needed.

Nathan regained control when his head met tree and fell onto his butt the moment after he makes contact. He was still conscious, but his head pulsed from the pain coming from his head. He laid on his back, unsure what had happened and as to why he suddenly wanted to headbutt a tree. Yet, at the moment, he was laying down on his side and curled up in the fetal position. The small groans signalling that he wasn't out just yet. He tried to get up once, but he just fell down and stayed. He wasn't going to be moving, much less fight anytime soon.

Sylvan nimbly hops to the tree he just rammed into. Or rather, the tree which she used as a weapon against his body, which she possessed. Accuracy is important, after all. She wondered if things had gone how they were supposed to. Regardless, she had either won or this was all part of some grand ploy on his part. given that he had let her ram him into a tree though, it would have to be a very strange ploy indeed. Or possibly a stupid one. He was caught in all her genjutsu's quite easily, so she was inclined to believe that he was merely inexperienced with them.
Calling down form the top of the tree, she asks. "I could've killed you when you were under my genjutsu, but that isn't how sparring works, ja? I think I've won this time. did you learn anything?" All this was said without any hint of mockery, malice, or sarcasm. all this, despite casually indicating she could've killed him by now. She truly meant it. She would probably answer truthfully if he asked if she had learned anything, in fact.

He took in a long, breath in order to calm himself. He knew that trying to move too much would make his head throb anymore. "I learned that I need to train against genjustu or else those that can use it can ruin me. What did you learn from this? How good you were at using your justu?" He asked while sounding bitter about the whole ordeal, but he felt he was justified for the things that had happened to him as of late. He knew that she could kill him at anytime and probably destroy his mind if she continued with the first genjustu.

Sylvan chirps happily as she hops down form the tree, landing several yards away from him. "I learned that I need to get better at close combat! But also that Genjutsu's are a legitimate strategy! They all went over very well, and I got to use most of them." She seems totally unaware of the bitter tone in his voice. "Do you require medical assistance I have a kit stashed somewhere in the forest, I could go get it..." She says uncertainly, observing his head. She could've destroyed his mind, true. It would've meant one less Uchiha to deal with. But.. while many things made no sense to her, the idea that killing randomly people was probably not a good idea was something she quite clearly understood. After all, her entire reason for becoming a ninja was so that such a thing would not happen to her. So she hoped the experience had helped him out. It certainly seemed to, the topics he covered were definitely things he needed to train against. "Perhaps you should train in the use of your Sharingan, Uchiha. It would've aided you significantly, and forced me to come into close quartars, where you might've fared better."

He found himself naturally smiling at her being happy, but didn't really have a reason to for himself. He felt the pain in his head start to die down, but for the journey back home, he decided to take the help that was provided to him. "Yeah." He said simply and finally managed to himself upright despite it making his head throb some more. The smile that he had faded away as the mention of his sharingan showing up was brought up. "True." He said while his head moved over his eye. He had to admit that having a sharingan would make things much simpler for him, but he also knew how scary he looked when he had it. The most he had seen it was when his parents were angry at each other and shouted at each other, their eyes turning red after activating their sharingans, but wasn't going to bring that up now. "I will try to look for some other ways to get around genjustu as well." He said, hoping to at least find an alternative for his eyes.

Sylvan frowns as she offers a helping hand to assist his ascension. He quite clearly danced around her points regarding the Sharingan. In particular, he mentioned 'other ways around Genjutsu' rather than 'improve my Sharingan'. This filled her head with puzzling hypothesis about him. Perhaps he couldn't use it, or perhaps he did not want to use it. either of those were bad, more so for him than her. He was quite clearly marked as a Uchiha, which meant others would have certain expectations of him. And the Sharingan was a powerful tool. The fact that he did not appear to have access to it was worrisome indeed. Using it as a crutch was foolish, of course. But it was a good thing to have, if for the ability to pierce Genjutsu alone. she wasn't sure the specifics of its other abilities, but knew that they made hand-to-hand combat and ninjutsu much more powerful. she wasn't sure how, precisely, but she had enough evidence to assume it was the Sharingan. The only reason that she knew it pierced Genjutsu was form listening in on conversations some of the hirer ranked people probably should've had behind closed doors. and even then, they hadn't outright stated it.
"I will not judge you if you cannot use those eyes." she says, slowly but firmly, "but if it is that you will not then I fear for you. Best of luck. We should do this again sometime." she leaps back from him, watching as he got upright. "I will retrieve the medical kit, please stay here and do not strain yourself further. Just to clarify, this battle is over?" she asks.

He was thankful for the help up and took her hand. He didn't say anything else about his sharingan since he was unsure whether it was a real blessing or a curse to have those eyes. They had provided power and yet he never saw anything positive result from it. In all honesty, he would use it if he had to and even train himself to use, but he just wanted to be his last resort. He felt silly, dumb, or synonyms one could come up with for the lack of intelligence to benefit from his in born skill. "Yeah, we should." A smile starting to return to him again though faded when Sylvan jumped away from him. He got up a little slower than normal, but that was just because of his head. He then got confused as she asked him an obvious question like she had done earlier though like earlier, he answered it. "Of course."

Sylvan nods politely, and runs off to get the medical kit. She would need to replace it after this, yet again. Next time, she would make them bring their own kit. No need for her to have to use her own resources after all.
A short while later, she returns from the opposite direction her clearing is actually in, medical kit in tow. "Other than you head, are you injured?" she asks as she opens it carefully. She hadn't dealt any physical injuries besides ramming his head into a tree as far as she knew, but it was entirely possible she'd overlooked something. She would probably have to help him back to the village regardless.

Nathan waited patiently as she went to get the kit and started to wonder who she was exactly. All he got was what clan she was from and that she was from his class, but not her name. He wasn't sure whether he should blame that on his headache or the fact that he had never gotten it. It seemed a little rude to have gotten some much help or even consideration without knowing her name. When she came back, he would with a, "No." He would keep quiet for a moment, feeling a little awkward having to ask the question. "Sorry, but did we ever get each other's names?" He asked.
